Lovely location and the food is amazing! We’ve eaten there a number of times and try to pop in when we are in the area.
Rustic and cosy feeling, owners and staff are all welcoming.

Lovely little hidden away hotel, absolutely love the old rustic feel to it, beds are a bit old but very comfy, room is quirky, only gripes are it was a bit cold as heating doesnt seem to work properly (but when asking for a electric heater I was given one within a few minutes) and the banging, grinding noise that started around 7am underneath, was a little irritating, otherwise very happy with my stay, staff are polite and courteous, owner seems nice, would definitely come here again

Fantastic hidden gem which caters for campervans and perfect to explore the surrounding area by foot, train or car
Staff/owners couldn't be more helpful and the menu superb.
And to top it all.. they have Hawkstone lagers and ciders!
Thoroughly recommend 👌

We walked down to here for dinner last weekend, the food was great and the owner was really friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a drink in front of the fire and gave the dog a chance to dry off from the wet walk down.
Food was amazing as was the service

Beautiful location.
The good yorkshire welcome of locally made bread and cheese, along with fresh milk in a flask for our tea and coffee in the room, was a nice touch.
1st impressions were good, but that's where it finished.
The room appeared clean until we settled in and noticed the skirting boards and the radiators were thick with dust, and big cobwebs hanging from the ceiling around the bedroom, which were also dusty, so had obviously been there a while.
At least the bedding was clean, so should at least sleep well i thought, until i found that the bedbase was broken, so I had to spend the night sleeping with my shoulder in a dip, made for a very uncomfortable, broken nights sleep.
Unfortunately, unlike what was advertised, there were no toiletries provided.
There wasn't even any hand-wash provided in the bathroom, in place were 2 little bottles of shampoo. Luckily, I had packed my own shower gel.
The fire alarm went off for a couple of minutes at 1.30 am. By the time we were dressed, somebody had run down the corridor and turned the alarm off, but then complete silence.
The heating was non existent (to be honest not a bad thing given how bad the dusty radiators would have smelt being warmed up) and the hot water was very hit or miss, none at all until 7am, then fluctuating between ice cold and scalding hot for morning shower.
There was no mention of the fire alarm at breakfast at all.
We didn't mention it at checkout as the only staff member who was around at the pre arranged check out time of 10am was the cleaner, who spoke very broken English and struggled to understand our feedback about the broken bed, so we weren't going to get into why the fire alarm had gone off during the night.
I note that the hotel is for sale at present. Hopefully, a new owner could inject some tlc into the areas that matter the most when a guest pays to stay for a good night's sleep and a clean, warm place to rest.

We called here for a family meal, 8 people ranging from 21- 80yrs. We all had different main courses and all thought it one of the best meals we have had. We shared a couple of the piggy platters to start and they were amazing. The staff were very attentive and the wine was good quality but not too expensive. The only downside to the evening was that most of us were too full to try the sweets. We will be back to rectify that.

Top location in kinda middle of nowhere. They allow camping in vans in the carpark if you ring in advance. Beer was very good and food was really on point!! I had belly pork with black pudding and a scallop it was off the hook! If you’re passing pop in!

I don't normally leave reviews good or bad but felt compelled to write in about this hotel. On a positive note the food was good and up there when compared with some other C2C B&B's my daughter and I stayed in recently. However, the room we were provided was dirty, what looked like carpet cut-outs for curtains, a block of wood provided to keep the window open, a dirty shower with half a screen in place and generally grubby throughout. In addition the owner bordered on unfriendly and should focus on cooking and not running a business. I have often walked past the hotel on previous C2C's and hoped I could stay there one day. I am not a fussy person and as a former soldier have lived in some pretty challenging and rough locations but this hotel was the worst I have encountered in many, many years of hiking across the country. Maybe the owner has given up as I noticed it for sale. With some capital investment and good business brains it could be a lovely hotel. Stay clear in the meantime.

We parked our camper overnight in pub car park and ate and drank here. So friendly and accommodating. Great dog place. Food was incredible, both evening meal and breakfast.
Beautiful country setting next to the river at Egton Bridge. Will definitely come again.

Second visit to the horseshoe where we stop in a camper-van in the car park. The hotel is a little dated and quirky but the food is fantastic. We both had poached salmon with clams and scallops and it was perfect and after three courses and two bottles of wine the bill was only £110.00 with free parking overnight with a WC available at night. Definitely be back again next year

Great pub with a great selection of food and drink.
There is a farmshop in the grounds selling brilliant cakes and pastries.
There's a hogroast on the grounds, too.
Great little spot for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Right on the river with a great beer garden

Really disappointing experience. Have been coming here for the last few years when the heather is in full bloom as it is an amazing day out from Scarborough.
Shocked to see that the outdoor kitchen was not running and no-one was sat outside on a lovely day during the summer holidays. We've come for lunch before and the place has been heaving and full of good vibes. We weren't even sure the place was open, saw one car drive-in and out looking puzzled.
Lunch menu is really very limited when they can and have offered so much more and better. £8 for a pretty small tuna sandwich was very underwhelming.
Hearing the manager talk to staff loudly (think he was in another room) was kinda off-putting, especially when he told him to "look out the window for people". Honestly, there were more flies in the room we had lunch in than there were people.
The drop in standards and business was genuinely shocking. I used to call this a hidden gem and now I wont bother promoting again and it will become just hidden.
Farm shop is usually amazing but this time we didn't feel motivated to hand over anymore money because of the disappointing experience. One biker saw our faces on the way out and drove off after he asked for our opinion on the place.
Location is genuinely gorgeous and the drive to it is great but there is no motivation to go back when you can just make a nicer sandwich at home. A real shame.

Stopped here on the coast to coast walk. It is a quirky old place with outstanding service and creative food. When I think back about my favorite stops on the C2C, this inn comes immediately to mind. Windy halls with funky decorations and cozy rooms--it all felt very comfortable. My expectations for food had gotten quite low by the time I got here, but I was blown away by the menu. Certainly this was the best food we had on our hike.

Great place to drop in for a drink and enjoy the attractive garden setting, with characterful chickens scratching around, and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors ambience in every stone and leaf. Good beers and an attractive menu.

Great old building with characterful bar. Wonderful setting with an outdoor area which is as good as what you would find anywhere. I drink cask beers and on each of my two very recent visits, the beers, though not OFF, were of poor quality. For a pub with such a lot going for it, it's a shame those in charge don't serve beer of a much higher standard.

Superb lunch stop on our bike ride. We weren’t sure what options there would be on our ride so we’re delighted to come across the Horseshoe.
We had cake from the farm shop and a pork bap from the hog roast. All delicious and service was really friendly and efficient.
